MAKE A WISH... AND BLOW!

Remember these?

While doing some yard work recently, I noticed this lone standing dandelion and it actually stopped me in my tracks.  I stood there and looked down at it and wondered... just where did you really come from?

When I was a kid, these fuzzy white dandelions were a resource for many of my childhood wishes. Besides blowing out my birthday candles, I could blow on a dandelion and know, as the hundreds of tiny white parachutes floated away across the yard, my wishes would come true. It was just a matter of time.  Little did I know I was contributing to the migration and inundation of... weeds!!

If anyone has tried to rid their yard of dandelions, I'm sure you'll agree that it's more fun to think of these pesky plants as wish makers.  I looked down at this little guy, trying to decide if I was going to do it or not.  I know I'm grown, but some things you just don't outgrow.  I looked around to see where Harley was.  He must've taken a wheel barrel load out to the street, because he wasn't anywhere around.  I looked down at it again... and pondered.  With a quick movement of determination, I swooped down,  plucked that bad boy up, closed my eyes and blew...

The wishes of my childhood differ greatly from the wishes I wished for that day.  Gone are the pleas for new puppies and cute kittens, a Ken for my Barbie, or even a school year full of snow days.

My wishes today would be of sunny skies and warm temperatures, no traffic and good restaurants.

Bridges over rivers...

Long and winding roads...

... and my soul mate to share it with.

It's funny how we change.  What about you?

What do you wish for?  phfooooooooooooooo...

Have a great week everybody!

PIC OF THE WEEK - SUNSET ON SUMMER

Today is Labor Day. Not only does it give us an extra day off... for me it marks the end of summer.

Labor Day was always the holiday that meant school was back in session, football starts, and your days are definitely shorter.  While playing around the mountains this summer, I took a couple of pics during the sunset hour and I think this one reflects my mood perfectly.  It's time to say goodnight to long, sunny days and sizzling hot temperatures.  It's time to enjoy the sunset on summer.

Don't be sad.  Just because summer is over doesn't mean it's time to park your bike. In fact... when you live in the south, autumn and winter are the best times to ride!

Have a great week everybody and... HAPPY LABOR DAY!

PIC OF THE WEEK - UNDER THE OL' SHADE TREE

When Harley and I are out ridin' the roads, we carry a collapsible cooler in the saddle bag with drinks. So unless we need fuel, when we take our breaks, we try to find a cozy place to stretch our legs and let me snap a pic or two. We'll usually try to look for places that have shade because if you've ever ridden in the south... our heat can be brutal. We were riding near Lay Lake a couple weeks ago and rode over to the dam where we found the perfect shade tree to take our break.

UNDER THE OL' SHADE TREE
While we were cooling off and letting the Glide catch their breath, I noticed another group of shade takers.

Just across a large grassy area and the parking lot, we noticed these geese enjoying the cooler effects of the shady tree themselves. So there we all were, standing or sitting under a big shade tree... cause it was just to hot to be anywhere else.

I hope you all had a nice weekend and here's to an even nicer Monday.

PIC OF THE WEEK - BLACK AND BLUE SUMMER

As usual, Harley and I were out and about, enjoying the Glides Saturday and stopped at one of our favorite parks. The Confederate Memorial Park is a perfect rest stop for us and each time we come here, I add to my collection of pics from this place.

BLACK AND BLUE SUMMER
There was a day, when a black and blue summer meant a punch in the eye and a kick to the shins, but Harley's blue baby and my black beauty make a great color combination for our lazy summer rides around our sweeping southern highways. We logged almost 250 miles Saturday while our temperature reached 90 and the sun stayed high in a bright blue sky. Better than a punch in the eye I guess.

I hope you all have a great Monday everybody!
