PIC OF THE WEEK - TEASLEY'S MILL GENERAL STORE & POST OFFICE

We found another "cool" spot to share while we were out riding the Glides last weekend. The funny thing about this little place, is that we ride right past it every time we head down to Florida and we've never stopped to take a closer look until now.

TEASLEY'S MILL GENERAL STORE & POST OFFICE
This quaint little group of old buildings is situated just off the road about 30 miles south of Montgomery on Hwy. 231. It was featured on our local news one night that some man purchased all these structures from other areas of the county and had them moved here to this one location.

He painstakingly cleaned and restored all these old signs and gas pumps himself. As I looked around at some of this vintage memorabilia, I was swept back in time... to another place... another dimension... ... and old gas prices! Check it out!

And... something tells me there's some pretty neat of stuff sitting on that porch! The next time you find yourself riding up 231, stop by and look around. The area is open for anyone to come up and enjoy. We even looked around for "No Trespassing" signs and found none. I guess that's why the south is know for it's "southern hospitality".

PIONEER SHOPPING VILLAGE

Harley and I often find ourselves riding on or near Hwy 231 south during our much deserved road therapy sessions. It's also the same road that takes us to Panama City, and as my regular readers know... we go there often.

PIONEER SHOPPING VILLAGE

Well, there's something called the Pioneer Shopping Village on Hwy 231 just north of Troy, AL that always captures my attention when we ride by it. On this particular day of riding, we decided to stop in and see what it was all about.

ADAMS GENERAL STORE

In the little village, there are antique stores, gift shops, a Blacksmith shop, Grist Mill and a restaurant. You can find ceramics, glassware, old books, knickkacks and custom knives. I'm not much of a shopper, but I've determined that this would be a cool place to find some very unique Christmas gifts!

There are some other historic structures scattered around the village that's connected by a nice paved walking path as well as large shelters and picnic areas available for large gatherings. This would be an awesome playground for the kiddos during a big family reunion!

W. T. SMITH LUMBER COMPANY TRAIN I wonder just how much lumber this old locomotive moved around in its prime.

I've always wanted to stop in here and take a look around, and I'm glad we did. Sometimes, when you look at things with a fresh eye, you'll realize you have some pretty cool stuff right under your nose! The Pioneer Village would be one of those gems.

ROLLIN' IN THE HAY
I just love this big white farm house with it's lush green pasture and rain fed fish ponds. We pass by this property often, as it sits on one of our well traveled roads, Hwy 231, just south of Rockford, Alabama. I like to imagine myself living a quiet and uncomplicated life when I see this place.

There are several very pretty properties canvasing the countryside in our beautiful rural Alabama. I usually don't have the opportunity to snap pictures of my viewpoint from the road, so fortunately, riding in the pillion seat Saturday gave me that chance. Hmmm... seemed like old times!
