PIC OF THE WEEK - LOOKING UP

One of my very best friends came up from Panama City Friday to spend the weekend with me, and we had such an awesome together.  It was a beautiful day Saturday so we decided to load up my puppies, take the top off the Jeep and head to the country.  We are at our peak right now for fall foliage peeping, so we were able to get our eyes full!

The nice thing about riding around "topless" is when you look up...

Not much color, but we laughed and called this... the "Ball Tree".

 My friend is from Massachusetts originally but has been living in Florida for several years now, and she was really enjoying the color display.  It's funny what you miss when you move away to somewhere so different.

I hated to see her leave Sunday, but I'm thankful we had a wonderful couple of days together.  Until the next time...

PIC OF THE WEEK - REACHING FOR THE SKY

I'm partial to taking pictures of trees.  They make great subjects and they're always reminding me of something else... besides being  tree.

This one seems to be pleading for new life as it reaches for the sky, and there's something about the way the dark decaying limbs contrasts against the bright blue sky that captures my attention and makes me like this picture. 

 
Spanish moss hangs from its branches like overgrown beards and blows softly in the gentle breeze (such a romantic!).

If I had a dime for every tree picture I had... I could quit my day job!  Have a nice week everybody!

BEAUTY AND THE BEASTS

Saturday found us riding up around Sylacauga so we could visit with Harley's mom and take her out to lunch. She enjoys the outing and we never get bored riding up on one of our favorite highways, CR 29 in Coosa County (we figured in this case the CR really stands for... curvy road!).

Right outside her apartment sits this very pretty tree (I think it's a Yoshino Flowering Cherry Tree) and it served as a pretty spring backdrop to our beastly rides.

Spring is popping out everywhere you look, so every time we stopped to stretch, I had my camera in my hands. I tried to think outside the box and capture the beauty of Mother Nature by playing with different camera settings, so bear with me as I share my experiments with you.

We had a wonderful ride in spite of having to zigzag our way home to split a couple terrible storms. Harley is great at watching the sky, so we made it successfully without getting a single drop on us! I put several miles on the 'ol girl this weekend... and it sure does feel good!

PIC OF THE WEEK - STORYBOOK CHURCH

We had a beautiful Saturday here in Alabama and I'm happy to report that riding 175 miles in some brilliant sunshine and under beautiful skies can do wonders for your spirit. I can't wait for all you riding brothers and sisters in the north to feel it again yourselves. It's great!

My FB friends had a sneak peak at my photos yesterday, and KT commented on this picture and called it the Storybook Church. I kind of liked it, so... Thanks KT, for helping me come up with a great title for my Pic of the Week for today!

I have a lot more to say about this historic community, but I'll have to save it for a longer post. In the meantime, here's a couple of bonus pictures of what you may see on the way to Lowndesboro.

PIC OF THE WEEK

WINTER IN ALABAMA
Soul rejuvenation... straight ahead! This is Hwy. 21 in Wilcox County and was part of the ride I posted about yesterday. The bleak winter trees and overcast sky, makes it look cold, but it was only about 71 degrees on this day, January 3, 2009. However, we've been blessed with 30 to 40 degree temps for the last couple of weeks, so don't feel too bad. Have a nice Monday everybody!

BEARDED TREES
I've ridden through the streets of Panama City many times, while playing with my pals during Thunder Beach and other summer weekends. I actually took the opportunity this past weekend to get a shot of one of the many beautiful "old south" streets in this historic area of town. This is in the Cove near St. Andrews Bay. I love how the moss hangs from these old trees like long flowing beards.

AND THE WINNER IS... !

We have a tie! Painted Desert and Southern Comfort came in tied for the win on the best PIC OF THE WEEK for 2008.

I want to thank every one who participated in my little voting poll. I did learn something valuable from this. No matter how funny a picture is, for those of us who like to ride... it's all about the scenery! Thanks again everyone, and have a nice Monday!
