FRIDAY FUNNY - HUMOR IN UNIFORM

Since Memorial Day is Monday, I've decided to dedicate my Friday Funny to some of my favorite people... those men and women who wear a uniform in defense of our great (although somewhat crippled) country.  This holiday provides us a chance to honor those who served and died while protecting our American freedoms.

Being a Navy veteran myself, I understand all too well about "down time".  You never lose the importance of your duties or the significance of discipline, but when the smoking light is on, well... let me just let the pictures speak for themselves.

I AM THANKFUL

I'm inspired by two of my favorite bloggers... Mq01 over at Ms. M's Place and Kurt Sutter, creator of Sons of Anarchy and his blog, SutterInk.  Kurt posted his first and Ms. M followed suit. It seemed fitting for today.

I AM THANKFUL...

For love... I almost became a widow this summer, but God spared me that.

For my job... In today's economy, I'm very grateful to be blessed with work.

For family... Coming from as large a family as I do... you never feel alone.

For friends... I have some real gems in my collection. (I couldn't make it without you!)

For my relatively good health and somewhat sane peace of mind.  (or at least that's my story... and I'm sticking to it!)

For my dad's discipline and keen sense of humor, and my mom's patience and consideration.

I am thankful I had parents that loved each other and worked together, to mold me into who I am today.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!

Whether you're celebrating your holiday with a house full, or just a few... take a moment to look around the room.  Savor the moment... and count your blessings.

PIC OF THE WEEK - VICKSBURG MILITARY PARK

Author's note: I had a small problem posting this Monday, and I just noticed that the Google reader didn't pick it up. I'm just re-posting my Monday's post with a new date and time to see if it works. Just an experiment... sorry to bother you. ;)

VICKSBURG, MS... In honor of today being Memorial Day, I've decided to share my Vicksburg experience with you, so I created a slide show for today's Pic of the Week. I hope you all are having a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Last summer, Harley and I spent a few glorious days riding the Glides along the entire length of the Natchez Trace Parkway. During that awesome historical adventure, we took a small detour over to Vicksburg to visit the Vicksburg Military Park.

This awesome park was 16 miles of somber grandeur as we gazed upon 1,325 historic monuments and markers identifying the different States and Companies who fought and died on these very grounds. That historic 47 day siege sprawled across 1,800 acres of trenches and hills that would challenge even the strongest of men, without considering the fact there were so many who were sick and wounded.

Vicksburg Military Park is a place that should be on everyone's bucket list. I will visit there again when I can find myself in that area. I was humbled to realize the magnitude of life lost in order to mold and shape our country toward what it is today. It really makes you appreciate those who still do that... sacrifice their life for our freedom. To them I say... THANK YOU and GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I was able to snap this pic of these two fishermen while we were riding along the Pearl River during our ride on the trace. In honor of our Labor Day Holiday today, I thought it shows a great way to spend an extra day off... go fishing.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Well, today is St. Patrick's Day, a good excuse for Irish Whiskey and green beer! Seeings how I've got me a little bit o' Irish in me, I thought I would celebrate with a little Irish humor!

Two Irishmen, Patrick & Michael, were adrift in a lifeboat following a dramatic escape from a burning freighter. While rummaging through the boat's provisions, Patrick stumbled across an old lamp. Secretly hoping that a genie would appear, he rubbed the lamp vigorously To the amazement of Patrick, a genie came forth. This particular genie, however, stated that he could only deliver one wish, not the standard three. Without giving much thought to the matter, Patrick blurted out, "Make the entire ocean into Guinness Beer!" The genie clapped his hands with a deafening crash, and immediately the entire sea turned into the finest brew ever sampled by mortals. Simultaneously, the genie vanished. Only the gentle lapping of Guinness on the hull broke the stillness as the two men considered their circumstances. Michael looked disgustedly at Patrick whose wish had been granted. After a long, tension-filled moment, he spoke: "Nice going Patrick! Now we're going to have to pee in the boat!

I'm sure there's a Road Captain out there somewhere who may appreciate floating in a sea of Guinness! Here's another.

Gallagher is in Boston and he is waiting patiently, also, he is watching the traffic cop on a busy street crossing. The cop stops the flow of traffic and shouts, 'Okay pedestrians'. Then he allows the traffic to pass. He did this several times, and Gallagher is still standing on the sidewalk. After the cop has shouted 'Pedestrians' for the tenth time, Gallagher approaches him and says, 'Is it not about time ye let the Catholics across?'
