PIC OF THE WEEK - COHUTTA MOUNTAIN IN GEORGIA

I know this post is a day late, but I didn't come out of the woods and off the mountain till yesterday and then I chose to nap my long weekend to a close.

Our summer was a little interrupted by unforeseen events, so when Harley and I had the chance to head for the hills for Labor Day... we did exactly that. We rented a cabin up on Lookout Mountain in Mentone, AL and rode the Jeep over to Georgia to explore in the Chattahoochee National Forest on some awesome fire roads.

COHUTTA MOUNTAIN IN GEORGIA
We found FR 17 that took us to the top on a sandy gravel interpretation of the "Tail of the Dragon", complete with very steep drops offs and no guard rails.

Just to give you an idea... if you were to step in the grass on the left side of this road, you would be looking down at a 90 to 100 foot drop... at least!

It was wickedly scary in a few places, but we had a wonderful weekend and very relaxing one at that!
I hope you all had a great holiday... I know I did!

TALLULAH GORGE

A few years ago, Harley and I spent some time riding around the north Georgia area and enjoyed some great scenery and some wonderful roads. We stopped at the Tallulah Gorge State Park , one of the most spectacular canyons in the Eastern United States and endured just a small amount of hiking to get to the overlooks that allow you to enjoy the gorge and falls.

TALLULAH FALLS
This particular trip was the first one we took after I moved up from my 800 Suzuki Intruder to the Electra Glide. I remember, I was more focused about the riding than I was taking in the scenery. I think I'm ready to revisit that area and enjoy it without the piggybacked apprehension that plagued me the first time.

Have a great Monday everybody!

ANGEL CITY RALLY

Shine your scoots and don your boots... it's rally time! Woo Hoo!

When... 6:00 PM, Wednesday, April 14th through Sunday,April 18th.

Where...

Angel City! The first town built specifically for bikers! Located off I-75 Exit 122 in Unadilla, Ga.
We plan to load up the Glides and ride over to Angel City for the Angel City Rally next weekend and enjoy a much deserved play date (weekend!) with our other biker pals. This will be the first rally for us since Spring has sprung and I'm looking forward to the nice long ride across the state line and spending a relaxing few days with some really great friends.

Our usual "Spring Fling" is down in Holt, FL at the Emerald Coast BikeFest, but we all decided last year we would try another rally, so... this is the first time our group is congregating at this event. The entertainment promises to be pretty sweet with Stacie Collins, The Skeeterz, Big Engine, and Blistur just to mention a few. I hope to bring you a good report!

Ride smooth... or ride rough... just ride!

GEORGIA ON MY MIND... STILL

As I was saying... we were enjoying the Georgia country side, while the weather provided a perfect day to ride.

We found a great little fish camp called Big Jim's about 23 miles away from the rally grounds into the country. This biker friendly restaurant and bar had the best fried shrimp, and even though I don't eat raw oysters, those with me who did, said they were great! The beer was cold and the music was good. We were enjoying ourselves and just having a nice time being with one another.

A picnic table full of riders from Pensascola, FL positioned right in front of us, was seemingly having a good time as well. Suddenly, one of the fellas turned around and pointed at me and asked, "Who sings this song?" The band was in the middle of their rendition of "Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple. When I told him Deep Purple, his face fell and every one else around his table started laughing. It seems that he had to buy everyone around his table a beer, because he bet them, that it was Foghat. I said, "You have to buy everyone a beer because I said it was Deep Purple?" He answered, "Yeah!" I said, "Cool", sweeping my hand across my table, "We all drink Bud Light." That got a big laugh out of everybody then! Well, a few minutes past, and not thinking any more about it, we got a second good laugh when this nice fella returned with a nice cold Bud Light, with 5 straws! Oh well... cheers!
Peek a Boo's friend has never been to a bike rally before and she was having great time. She shared with me the fact that she has two grandchildren, and all I could say was "Wow! She was the sexiest grandma I ever saw!" I think I'll just call her "Sexy Granny"! Well, everyone had told her about my blog and how I liked to write about riding motorcycles and going to rallies, like this one. I wanted to make sure she wouldn't mind, or be offended if I included her in any of the pics I use, or stories I share. I guess she wanted to do her best to assure me, because all of a sudden, she grabbed Peek a Boo, and planted a big fat one! She then turned to me and said, "Blog that Mother F*'er!" Woo Hoo!
Told ya... Double Trouble!

We all decided we had enough fun around the fish camp and we were ready to ride again. But before I continue my story, I need to reintroduce one of my pals and explain the quickest name change ever. I previously referred to one of our friends as Hippie. Harley and I both liked it and thought it would stick. When I mentioned this to our friend, we were taken to task like a child caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Hippie said, "What? Those yellow bellied, loser, no good trash that spit on me, and protested my cause while I was in Vietnam? Don't call me a f*'ing hippie!" Geeze, sorry dude! Don't worry, he's really a great guy and had us laughing within minutes with a story on how he got a nickname we will use.
Friends, meet Balls O'Roonie Filthy McNasty!
He had a very interesting tale on how he came up with his name, which will have to wait for another post. I think I'll just call him McNasty for short. He's riding a really bitchin' '76 Shovel Head, but she was showing her ass that day. (Sorry, I really shouldn't talk about this aging beauty like that) When we got ready to leave Big Jim's, she wouldn't turn over. McNasty knows how to wrench on these old girls, but what he discovered was not going to be an easy fix. A battery wire was burned. Fried. No life. That sucked. We decided to go on ahead and bring a trailer back, so we could bring her back to camp. The Beav stayed behind and waited with McNasty until we returned. Did I mention the beer was cold?

When we got back to camp, we explained to G-man what happened and it was just a matter of minutes and he was in the truck on his way to save the day. Hooray for G-man! He was also responsible for seeing to it that one of the golf carts got to the rally. Hooray for G-man! He also is one of the finest people we know and would help you out in heart beat. Hooray for G-man! Woo Hoo! Thanks G-man.

Some of my friends had a great time throughout the weekend coming up with several alias' for me. They enjoyed teasing me about my blog, and how I try to come up with unique nicknames for everyone. I do this for the sake of privacy, you'd think they might just appreciate it a little. LOL! It's only because I have a good sense of humor and don't mind taking my turn on the roasting table, that I feel comfortable sharing them with you. Let's see, the ones used most often were Lady Talksalot and Lady Blogsalot. But, as we got more into the weekend, I became Lady Drinksalot and sometimes, Lady Fallsalot, which of course lead to... Lady Pukesalsot.

We were all very responsible campers while we were rallying it up! We each made sure that we kept our garbage neat and clean and organized. See... here is my pile.
Brrrrppppp!

This was the first time I got to enjoy the Bainbridge Bike Fest. I enjoyed the company, I enjoyed the riding, and I enjoyed meeting some new friends. We all had a damn good time and we even got to enjoy a little Shakespeare. I have lots of pics to share, so I plan to create a slide show to summarize the great weekend I had. In the mean time... ride safe and ride on!

GEORGIA ON MY MIND

I've been having a hard time getting back into the swing of things this week. I don't know if it's because I'm pushing my tired old self beyond my limits, or because I still have Georgia on my mind. Truth be told, it's probably a little bit of both! Harley and I went to the Bainbridge Bike Fest last Thursday for a big weekend of partying and biking with a bunch of good friends. As usual, our buddy Big Ed will have the light on for us at Hotel Raptor. He's so good to us, but don't tell him I said so. He don't like for me to mention him. Shhhh!

We enjoyed a nice afternoon ride as we made our way south to the Bike Fest. Once Harley and I got to the rally grounds and paid our way in, we found our party relatively easy. The Lone Ranger just happened to be coming back in at the same time from running an errand and spotted us, so we just played follow the leader. We pulled our bikes into the circle of RV's and didn't even get our kickstands down long before somebody held out a cold Bud Light and said, "Ready for one?" I just smiled and replied, "Let the games begin!"

Peek a Boo's BFF from south Florida was here for the rally, and they claimed to be "Double Trouble" and have been for many years! It looked like Kit was going to be in for an interesting weekend, and I don't think he was disappointed. The three of them kept us laughing with their antics, the whole time we were there, until we pulled out Sunday morning. They were a hoot! (Did someone say owls?)

The Lone Ranger wasn't alone, he brought Strawberry to play with this weekend! LOL! This was her first time to come to Bainbridge too. She was lots of fun and we all loved meeting her. The J's, G-man, Hippie, and the Beav were also already there and set up for the next three days.

Darlin' and Detail came over Friday afternoon. Detail can do magic with his hands that would make your motorcycle look like brand new. He explained the wet sanding technique and several other ways he can wake up the beauty in a bike. Sounds like a man after my own heart. I need to introduce him to my girl. Darlin' is as sassy as she is good looking. I get a kick out of watching her in action cause, if you step out of line, she will definitely tell you where the monkey put the peanut! I just sit back and take notes. You go girl!

Taser bait and Flame finally got there, better late than never. Right before they arrived, Darlin' just had us all in stitches talking about how gloriously perfect, our friend Flame is. She's every man's dream, at least according to all our men folk. She has never shown an unpleasant side of herself, ever! She's always smiling and happy, never has been overheard saying a cross word to anyone, thinks everybody is a great person, and to top all that off... she has great tits! LOL! Darlin' says that when Flame makes an entrance, the angels in heaven above sing... Hallelujah! When she wakes up in the morning, humming a happy tune, the little bluebirds fly in with her clothes and drop them on her, and happy little chipmunks scurry in with her slippers, all the while, the sun is shining and the birds are singing! (Cinderella doesn't have a thing on our Flame!) When they rode their bikes into the camp circle, we were standing around, waiting for them to settle in. As soon as she turned of her engine, several of us in various octaves all harmonized an angelic note... Hallelujah! We all busted out laughing and she thought we had lost our minds. We didn't really, we were just mesmerized!
Lady R with Taser bait and Flame. Yep! I'd say they seem pretty perfect to me!

I was missing my pal the Road Runner this weekend. He wasn't able to be here, so I happily agreed to "man" the grill. Actually, Flame, Strawberry and Darlin' did all the hard work by skewering the meat and veggies. I had the easy part!
Woo Hoo! Cruising the "hood" in golf carts, the transportation of choice, is the Lone Ranger, Strawberry, Detail, Flame and Taser bait. The rally campgrounds were set up like a small suburbia of RV's, campers and tents, displaying an interesting assortment of sizes and styles. Traffic was allowed to flow in a one way pattern throughout the "streets" which were laid out like spokes in a wheel that came out to a six point intersection at the center. This proved to be a more challenging adventure as the evening wore on. The "spirits" flowed freely, and the growing population of golf carts and motorcycles became like a rush hour madness... only fun!

During the day, we took advantage of the nice weather and went riding. The scenery along the way was a pleasure to take in, and it was a beautiful day. Slightly overcast skies kept us from getting too hot, which felt fantastic. The Lone Ranger had a '78 Shovel Head at the rally that was not very passenger friendly, so I was happy to let him and Strawberry enjoy my girl for the day so we could all go riding together. I hopped on the back of Harley's bike and just enjoyed the ride and took pictures.
Georgia is a big peanut growing state and we passed this peanut field being harvested.
Don't let your eyes deceive you, this isn't snow. We're just "way down south in the land of cotton."

To be continued... stay tuned for the next episode of GEORGIA ON MY MIND.
Still to come: G-man saves a Hippie, Sexy Granny, "Smoke on the water", and much, much, more!
