PIC OF THE WEEK - BUFFALO... IN ALABAMA??

Saturday was a perfect day to ride, and ride we did. Not knowing which way we wanted to go, we just played a quick game of spin the bottle... it decided we would head west.

We always seem to gravitate toward water when we ride, so as usual, we found ourselves riding down the small road that would lead us to Swift Creek on the Jones Bluff Reservoir. I was just puttin' along, taking in the spring scenery, the cows, the horses and the... WTF was that?

ALABAMA BUFFALO
Harley and I went on past these out of place western creatures, but it's the first thing we said to each other when we stopped. "Did you see those buffalo?" We thought it very unusual to see a herd of them here in the sunny south. I told Harley I didn't even notice when we crossed the state line, much less get all the way out west! (Yes... he rolled his eyes too!)

When we left Jones Bluff, I wore the camera around my neck so I could be ready to take some pics of our new found western friends. If you look closely, you'll even see one of them getting ready to roll on the ground... must need a back scratch.

This may not seem pic worthy to some of you, but this is not a regular site for us. I guess you just never know what you'll see when you ride around this big beautiful state I call home. Come on down and see for yourself!

I hope y'all like my new header. Have a nice week everybody!

New header is great and buffalo in Bama is pretty cool also. If you get a chance you should try a buffalo burger. They are pretty good.

It is something to see them. And they get twice as big as those if you can believe that. There are a few spots around here that have them. Onece had stopped to look at the ones we knew about and was wondering what is that moving over there under those trees? It was like big daddy stud. He was twice the size of the rest. They do sell the meat not far from here. It is good. Had a steak once too. $$$$ It cost a tid bit more than a hotdog.

The American Bison are awesome animals. Love the photos. Also want to add that I like the new header photo also.

Love the new header photo. We have a bison farm in maryland we like to ride by at least once a year. However last year the bison were not out as we rode by. We are still bummed about it.

Beef-a-lo's I love Bison. They are such adorable creatures...especially when they are trying to run you off the road. (I guess that's why I don't mind eating them.)

Hey! I found some in my back yard a couple of months ago only a few miles away.

Wow! Are they stock for food?
I like the new header photo too!

AZD... I've had a buffalo burger before and I'll agree... they are pretty darn good. Not sure why they would be here though. I imagine it's terrible for them during our summer heat. ugh!

Webster... since I don't notice very many places here with buffalo burgers on their menu, I have to conclude that they are pets. I laughed at one of them when he started rolling around on the ground like a dog scratching his back. :D

Motoroz... Thanks for the header compliment. Spring has me wanting a change and a fresh look.

RC... thanks friend. It was very strange to see these guys... definitely not a usual site.

Viking Dave... bison in your backyard. How cool is that... groceries that come to you. :D I've never been chased by a buffalo. Around here it's the turkeys you've got to watch out for! Gobble gobble!!

Willy D... Not sure of that... maybe they're going to donate all that fur to "locks of love"... some redneck needs a seat cover.

KT... can't imagine them being food. I think they are someone's pets. BIG pets!

Thanks everyone for the compliments on my new header. Harley took this pic of me leading while we rode the length of the Natchez Trace two summers ago. This was when we were passing by the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

Dear Lady Ridesalot:

Buffalo can jimp as high as a whitetail deer and they have tempers like a hand grenade. The meat is not nearly as sweet as corn-fed beef, but with marginal fat. It is al;so two to three times more expensive as beef, as the buffalo prefer air conditioned rooms at the Holiday Inn.

My first mothrer-in-law was gored to death by a buffalo, after she found herself trapped in a closet with one. (These things just happen.) Looks like you had a nice ride.

Freebird... Don't worry my friend, they're probably happy that your not touching them either! LOL!

Dear Mr. Riepe,

How tragic that was about your first mother in law. Perhaps if she'd have taken her date to the Ramada... things may have turned out differently.
