THUNDER AND RAIN AND... THE HALLMARK CHANNEL

I went to Panama City Beach  for Thunder Rain... I mean the Thunder Beach Spring Bike Rally last weekend, and in spite of the weather conditions (cold and rainy), I had a really great time.  But, any time spent with good friends is usually a great time to me.  Besides, it's not like it rained the whole weekend... just 50 % of it (rolling her eyes and laughing... laughing like a hyena... laughing at her own sense of demented humor) .

It wasn't all that bad. Harley went down the day before, but I had to work, so I took off about 9:00 Friday morning to join up with him and our friends. I had a really nice ride down, complimented by the continuous aroma of honeysuckle (my favorite Spring fragrance) and didn't get into any rain until I got near the beach.  Apparently, it had been raining there since Thursday and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon.  Everything and everyone, from the Sand Piper to Patches was hunkered down and fighting boredom while they waited out the weather.

The house we stayed at had a nice big covered porch, so we could all be outside without getting wet. That kept the cabin fever down to a minimum, but even in spite of our laughter and story telling, it was still a bummer to be sitting... and not riding.
Lady R... holding her front porch position.
Eventually my group, as big and scary as they are, (picture Phil and Si Robertson... with beers) turned to the Hallmark Channel.  Yep.  You read that right folks... Hallmark. I kind of wondered about this because earlier in the day, we had watched "Case #39" with Renee Zelleweger, and if any of you have seen that movie, you know it's a big flip from the kinds of movies you'll find on... the Hallmark Channel.

They tried to blame it on me and said they were just being nice.  Hmmmmm... that was their story and they were sticking to it!  They just figured I'd want to watch a chick flick, so... we just turned it into a contest to see who would let the others see them cry first. We pinky swore that the results would go with us to our graves (wink).

Saturday afternoon, around 1:00 the sun finally broke through and started drying up the beach.  One motor turned into two... then five.  Before you knew it, the streets came to life with the sounds of motorcycles of all kinds.Yeah! Thunder Beach!

It only took a couple hours to figure out everybody else was just as happy to get out and about, because every street that went anywhere near the rally venues, became slow moving parking lots. Good grief!  It was insane! Luckily, my local pals knew how to navigate us around some of the madness, but it was still such a cluster f#*%, if you know what I mean.

In spite of it all, we had a safe and fun weekend and got to see several of our friends.  Our ride home Sunday was a pretty one, so I guess you can say it makes up for some of the sittin'.  And even though Panama City and Panama City Beach is like a second home for us, it's always good to pull into the garage and realize you are blessed...  Home sweet home.

Being extra tired after weekend like this, Harley and I settled in our chairs and figured a nap was just around the corner.  He picked up the remote and asked what I wanted to watch.  I thought for a minute and a slow smile of remembrance appeared on my lips as I asked... What's on the Hallmark Channel?

Have a great week everybody!

IOWA HARLEY GIRL INTERVIEW

Extra! Extra! Read all about it. The Iowa Harley Girl, interviews... me??

I'm humbled and honored that Stephanie wanted to interview me for her blog, The Iowa Harley Girl. I met Stephanie, via the web, when I started blogging over four years ago and we befriended each other, mainly because we were both from Iowa and we rode motorcycles.  Those two common denominators was all it took for our friendship to form.

If you haven't read her blog before, you really should go give it a visit.  Not only does she share her own adventures while riding her '05 Sportster Custom named Sadie, she's also known for her awesome interview skills and has brought some very interesting characters to the table.  Folks who love motorcycles and the motorcycle way of life. Again, I'm honored to be considered in the unique group of interviewees.

So... without further ado...

Iowa Harley Girl's 'Lady R Rides Again!'

Awwww... shucks.

TEST RIDE, LAUGHTER AND... RAIN?

Many of my readers know, that I gave up riding last summer after my husband had an unfortunate incident with a car and the highway.  It's been very difficult adjusting to my decision, but out of my love and support for him, it seemed the best thing to do at the time. Other than a couple of small rides after the accident, I sold my 'ol girl right after my birthday, last July. The memory of that last ride has been very bittersweet and precious and has never left the forefront of my mind.  It's been a really strange year, but I believe that all things happen for a reason, we just may not always understand why.

May 7th, marked the one year anniversary of Harley's wreck, and he has not been on a motorcycle since... until yesterday.

It's amazing what a year can do for someone's psyche and spirit, but it's taken most of that time for his broken ribs to quit being such a bother.  We thought we could get interested in camping or boating, but the fact that we both really miss the joy that riding gave us, had more to do with our choice than anything. For the last several weeks, we've started conversing and pondering over our desire to get back on the road with just two wheels under us. It's been days and days of looking, shopping, dreaming, and planning.

Well, I'm pleased to announce, that yesterday he rode his (new to us) '08 Ultra Classic Electra Glide straight from the bank and right to the Harley Davidson shop so he could get a back rest mounted and talk about future motor work. Yes, boys and girls... we're baaaaacckk!

What about me, you ask?  Well, I've got my next one all picked out also.  After my little test ride last Tuesday, I'm just waiting for the dude to get his replacement title in the mail so we can conclude our transaction.  What am I getting, you ask?  Well... I've settled my sites on a beautiful blue '04 Fat Boy.  I really couldn't tell ya if the plastered grin on my face was from my excitement, or the test ride.

You see, I've always ridden with a windshield and fairing.  This Fat Boy had neither.  The night I went over to try it on for size, I had grabbed my half helmet instead of my three quarter helmet with the face shield. I should have know better, but I didn't think it would matter much. After all, it was just going to be a quick little ride.

I decided I needed to feel how smooth this bad boy Fat Boy felt at high speeds, so I took it up I-65 and rode the 10 miles it took to get to Prattville, before turning around.  Looking down at the speedometer and realizing how smooth and steady it felt, I cranked it up to 90 m.p.h. (and prayed no po-po was around!).  I was so excited at how solid it felt, I noticed myself laughing and giggling.  When you laugh and giggle at 90 m.p.h. with no filter between your face and the wind, it can get pretty weird!  Even though I was wearing glasses, I could feel watery tears streaming out of my eyes making a mad dash into my ear holes. The high speed wind in my face felt like a G-force of 10, causing me to have a plastered grimace that did everything but let my facial skin fly off my cheek bones. What a rush!! While blinking and laughing, I could feel my nose watering and spit flying out of the corners of my mouth. Holy cow... I'm sure those poor people driving behind me wondered where all the rain was coming from.  If you ever notice a cage running windshield wipers on a clear sunny day... chances are, they are following a motorcyclist without a windshield. Buwahahahahahaha... slurp!

These next couple weeks will seem like an eternity, while I wait for all the i's to be dotted, and the t's to get crossed. But one thing is for certain...

Lady Ridesalot rides again!

Stay tuned... it's gonna get good!

CROSSROADS... CHOICES... AND LIFE

Crossroads... One of my of my favorite things about riding, is coming up on a crossroads and trying to decide which way to go. Unless we had a preplanned destination in mind, Harley and I could spend our days of riding just meandering down unfamiliar roads and trying to find interesting places to share with others. Coming up on a four cornered stop, we'd look one way... then the other... the choice was ours.

Choices... We would take turns deciding, left, right or straight. The fun was in the mystery of it all. Our exploratory adventures often paid off when we'd find a new shortcut, or hidden treasure, but sometimes we could be right back where we started. This was not so bad, as long as you had time on your side and are good at U-turns. I seemed to enjoy those rides the best.

Crossroads and choices... They are not just on our roads and highways. We deal with them daily, in our everyday lives as well.

Life... From our first breath to our last, good or bad, it happens to us all. For the most part, what we do with our life is up to us, barring any unforeseen circumstances that may alter any previous plans or decisions. Keeping a good attitude and a healthy conscience, goes a long way in experiencing in what most folks would call "a good life". I would like to be able to look back on mine and say I lived life to the fullest and had no regrets.

During our 31 years of marriage so far, Harley and I have been doing exactly that. We've had the pleasure of taking on various challenges and activities allowing us to enjoy our life as a couple while we feed our adventurous spirits. Some experiences have been more rewarding than others and we've waded through our share of trials and tribulations, but for the most part, we are very blessed. Being able to ride motorcycles together for the last 8 years has probably been one of the biggest (of blessings) so far.

As most of you know, my hubby of 31 years went down this past Spring, on Mother's Day Weekend. (See... THE WRECK and DEATH OF A RIDER) We had big plans this year, but our summer has been wrought with hospitals, rehab facilities, and Dr. visits. Oh... and pain. Lots and lots of pain.

I've been by his side for all of it and let me tell you this... it did not look fun! Since his accident took place, I've been able to get in a few little rides, but nothing very spectacular. Commuting to work a few times, and getting out for a ride on my birthday for a couple hours, and that's been about it. Pitiful... but what can I say... that's LIFE!

As I cruised along the highway, that day of my birthday, I wondered what would happen now. I missed Harley, and it felt strange to be out on the road by myself, knowing he was back at the house, laid up on the couch anxiously awaiting my return. I've ridden solo plenty of times before and with other riding friends, but knowing he was out there somewhere on his own Glide, somehow made it okay. It felt very different now... very lost... very... separated.

With all that being said, I found myself at one of these crossroads in life... with choices to contemplate and decisions to make. Believe me when I say, it has been a very disheartening process.

I'm not the kind of person that can leave my loved ones behind. Maybe it's my own undoing, but I've always been that way. We're a team... we do things together... it's been that way for 31 years! The fact that the love of my life has lost his rider spirit, leaves me with the decision to carry on without him, or follow suit and put my riding days to rest. Believe me when I tell you... it has been a very tough pill to swallow, but I've decided to take a break from riding... at least for now.

I don't expect all of you to understand, and I imagine some of you are shaking your head right now as you read this. That's okay... I can accept that. I'm a "live and let live" kind of gal. Those who really know me, know I'm the same person... whether I'm riding or not. The fact remains, no matter how much I love my motorcycle and riding it, I love my husband more. Together we will accomplish many things. I have to believe, when one door closes... another will open.

Good decisions... are often compromised by emotions. ~ Author unknown.

Author's note:

I realize I've been neglecting my blog lately, but that's because I felt like I was hiding behind a cloak of deceit. Lady Rides-a-lot became Lady Rides-no-more, and I was having a hard time "coming out" about it. Telling you all of my decision not to ride has just lifted the burden of truth resting on my shoulders and I feel free to move forward with... the next chapter. Stay tuned... life goes on!!

REMEMBERING... YOUR "FIRST" (... continued)

first (adj.) being number one in a series; earliest in time; foremost in importance.

(... continued)

I wish I could tell you all that my dad was able to hook me up with an awesome ride and I was able to take my bully to task but, unfortunately, that was not the case. At that time, my sweet daddy worked very hard and sacrificed much just to provide a modest, yet comfortable living for his family of six. So, even though we were often told no, for some crazy reason... we never felt slighted. It's amazing what life can feel like when it's padded with love.

Fast forward about 30 years...

After graduating from High School, serving in the Navy and meeting my "first" (and only) husband, life has a way of ticking along whether you're meeting your goals or not. To spite the fact that we were living (although begrudgingly) within our means, we found ways to enjoy life and have fun, constantly assuring ourselves that we were doing so... happily ever after.

In the Fall of 2003, our near and dear friend offered us the chance to buy his '98 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic at a very reasonable price, as he was planning to buy a new one for himself. My hubby always said, if he were to ever get a motorcycle again, it would be a Harley Davidson. Unlike myself, he had the fortunate opportunity to have owned several different makes and models of motorcycles while he was growing up and before we married. He claims, "I've owned everything else in the past, and I've always said my next bike will be a Harley." It didn't take long to make a decision on how nice it would be to have a motorcycle in the garage, and knowing our friend like we do, we were procuring a bike in nearly perfect condition.

Fortunately, we were in a position to be able to take advantage of our friends generous offer and purchase our "first" Harley Davidson. It was the beginning of a whole new adventure... for both of us!
Now, I've been a passenger on a motorcycle a thousand times before, but this was the "first" time with my husband. Taking in the sun and wind and seeing the road from our new perspective put a giddiness in my heart and opened a flood gates of memories for me. I couldn't believe we didn't do this sooner!
Our "first" road trip was to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. It was absolutely amazing at how much fun we had riding the twisties, and even though we had some rainy weather during that trip... it didn't dampen our spirits one iota!
It was during the summer of our 25th Anniversary when we attended our "first" rally and boy, what an eye opening experience that was! I remember the "family style" rallies that I went to as a child and back then... I didn't remember my mom ever doing this!

As we walked around and took it all in we came across a very interesting couple who must have been so in love, that they attached themselves to one another with a leather dog leash, which was hanging from the girls neck from a studded choke collar. Hubby and I looked at each other in surprise and said... "Wow! We need to get us one of those!" The only problem was... we couldn't decide which one would get to hold the leash and which one had to wear the collar! LOL!

My next "first" is one I'm sure the ladies can relate to. You see, there was that "first" time I tried to mount my hubby's bike when he wasn't ready for me. Yes sir... you'll only do that once!! I realized then, it's just as important to be a responsible passenger as it is being a responsible rider. After all... it can make or break your fun!!

Over the next couple of years we really embraced the rekindled love and experiences that motorcycle ownership gave us. We also started to realize that this new addition to our household has allowed us to participate and enjoy life on a whole new level. Sharing this love and passion with others in the way of road trips, day rides, and a couple of good ol' raunchy rallies now and then, was like wearing a "life is good" t-shirt... everyday.
It wasn't long, however, before I was feeling a bit restless as I had a growing desire for more. I needed to feed my insatiable appetite for exhilaration and to feel my own sense of freedom I kept hearing others boast about so openly. It was like my dormant road spirit was coming awake and leading me down the path of truth.

I knew what I had to do.

PIC OF THE WEEK - BARBER VINTAGE MOTOR SPORTS MUSEUM

We are experiencing some awfully cold days here in the south (some of us are even getting a bit of snow and ice!) and it's making it a little difficult to get out and enjoy the miles. I'm sad to say that I did no riding this weekend and I'm beginning to feel like crack addict jonsin' for the next hit.

I was reading about Jay (Road Captain USA) and Diana's visit to the Barber Vintage Motor Sports Museum during their holiday time off, and all it did was give me the itch to ride back up there and walk around this giant collection of superb machinery. Be sure and check out their post, but in the meantime, I thought I would share my own slide show as today's Pic Of The Week. Some of you may have seen this before, but I think it's worthy of a "re-run".

BARBER VINTAGE MOTOR SPORTS MUSEUM

Shew... wasn't that great? It is said, that one of every motorcycle ever made is in that collection, with many more hidden away waiting for some time on the show floor. All I can say is... WOW!

Have a nice week everybody and stay out of the cold!!

PIC OF THE WEEK

While we were at Angel City a few weeks ago, our pal Big Ed parked his '78 Shovel Head in front of our campsite with a For Sale sign on it. There were a few interested passersby that would stop and look and ask a few question now and then, but no offers... except one.

HOLY CRAP BATMAN... HE WANTS HOW MUCH?
We thought it was pretty funny at the time... but it was an offer he easily refused!

Hope you all had a nice Mother's Day weekend... and now it's time to move on to Monday. Have a good one everybody!

PIC OF THE WEEK - MY FIRST RIDE

MY FIRST RIDE
I was 8 years old when this picture was taken of my dad posing on his Honda with me and my baby brother. He used to give us rides all the time and I remember them like they were yesterday! In fact, to let you in on the kind of father he really was... he probably wasn't able to sneak off and enjoy his rides as much as he could have cause he always had somebody in tow... mainly me!

I'm so glad I found this picture while I was home. I will treasure these memories forever. I miss you dad... thanks for everything!

Have a great Monday everybody!!

SOMETIMES HOG JUST "RUBS" ME THE WRONG WAY!

Dear Diary... a glimpse into the pages of a journal written by a woman rider.

April 15, 2009

Dear Diary,

I have such a rant today! I really do try to play well with others, but sometimes I think I'm better off if I just don't give a sh*t. Problem is, that's really not my nature.

I was pretty excited to learn that the Alabama State HOG Rally was going to be here, in Montgomery this year. This would mean we can participate in some of the rally activities without traveling somewhere else, and we don't have to pay for a place to stay. The Faunsdale Bike Rally and Crawfish Festival over near Forkland was going on this weekend also, so we had lots of activities to chose from. Me... I wanted to do it all and I was looking forward to a busy fun weekend.

We figured we would spend some time Friday afternoon out at the Montgomery Motor Sports Park, the venue where HOG was planning to have the Bike show and hold some biker games. I always have a good time watching these, so I went to the Harley Davidson Dealership today to inquire about getting H and I a couple of day passes for Friday.

They pointed to the nice gentleman in charge of the rally wristbands and once he realized what I was there for, he told me, "Okay, that'll be $80.00 for the two of you." WTF??? "$40.00 seems kind of steep for just a day!", I responded. He went on to inform me that, that price was for the whole weekend. When I asked again, about just paying for a day, he explained that the HOG chapter at the State level dictates the rally fees and they were selling weekend passes only.

He also proceeded to tell me a nice little story of another biker, who was giving a chapter member a hard time about the admittance fees for another Hog sponsored rally, and she promptly told that biker, "Maybe this just isn't for you." I stood surprised for a moment, because he delivered this tale with the best "if the shoe fits" attitude he could muster. I love my service guys here and some of the staff and I are pals, so I didn't want to show my ass. I just smiled and said, "I guess your right, this may not be for me." I don't think H nor I can rationalize spending $80.00 for just a few hours of fun, even if it is motorcycle related.

I left there feeling just a little snubbed. It seems to be more and more obvious lately that HOG is focusing their attention on high dollar events. When I recounted my conversation with my friend, Bogus, his response was, "You should have told him, to put on their fliers next time that this is a RUB HOG Event, so we regular bikers know it's not for us!" I also asked a few others around here what they're take on it was, and I kept running into the same thing... "costs too much!"

I'm really disappointed that I will not be participating at all in the Alabama state HOG Rally this year. I was looking forward to getting some great pics and writing on my blog about all the cool happenings, but I'm afraid HOG's admission fees are just a little to steep for me. This poor girl will have to do the next best thing, and that's RIDE her motorcycle.

I may not be a HOG, but I'm still a HO!

GEORGIA ON MY MIND

I've been having a hard time getting back into the swing of things this week. I don't know if it's because I'm pushing my tired old self beyond my limits, or because I still have Georgia on my mind. Truth be told, it's probably a little bit of both! Harley and I went to the Bainbridge Bike Fest last Thursday for a big weekend of partying and biking with a bunch of good friends. As usual, our buddy Big Ed will have the light on for us at Hotel Raptor. He's so good to us, but don't tell him I said so. He don't like for me to mention him. Shhhh!

We enjoyed a nice afternoon ride as we made our way south to the Bike Fest. Once Harley and I got to the rally grounds and paid our way in, we found our party relatively easy. The Lone Ranger just happened to be coming back in at the same time from running an errand and spotted us, so we just played follow the leader. We pulled our bikes into the circle of RV's and didn't even get our kickstands down long before somebody held out a cold Bud Light and said, "Ready for one?" I just smiled and replied, "Let the games begin!"

Peek a Boo's BFF from south Florida was here for the rally, and they claimed to be "Double Trouble" and have been for many years! It looked like Kit was going to be in for an interesting weekend, and I don't think he was disappointed. The three of them kept us laughing with their antics, the whole time we were there, until we pulled out Sunday morning. They were a hoot! (Did someone say owls?)

The Lone Ranger wasn't alone, he brought Strawberry to play with this weekend! LOL! This was her first time to come to Bainbridge too. She was lots of fun and we all loved meeting her. The J's, G-man, Hippie, and the Beav were also already there and set up for the next three days.

Darlin' and Detail came over Friday afternoon. Detail can do magic with his hands that would make your motorcycle look like brand new. He explained the wet sanding technique and several other ways he can wake up the beauty in a bike. Sounds like a man after my own heart. I need to introduce him to my girl. Darlin' is as sassy as she is good looking. I get a kick out of watching her in action cause, if you step out of line, she will definitely tell you where the monkey put the peanut! I just sit back and take notes. You go girl!

Taser bait and Flame finally got there, better late than never. Right before they arrived, Darlin' just had us all in stitches talking about how gloriously perfect, our friend Flame is. She's every man's dream, at least according to all our men folk. She has never shown an unpleasant side of herself, ever! She's always smiling and happy, never has been overheard saying a cross word to anyone, thinks everybody is a great person, and to top all that off... she has great tits! LOL! Darlin' says that when Flame makes an entrance, the angels in heaven above sing... Hallelujah! When she wakes up in the morning, humming a happy tune, the little bluebirds fly in with her clothes and drop them on her, and happy little chipmunks scurry in with her slippers, all the while, the sun is shining and the birds are singing! (Cinderella doesn't have a thing on our Flame!) When they rode their bikes into the camp circle, we were standing around, waiting for them to settle in. As soon as she turned of her engine, several of us in various octaves all harmonized an angelic note... Hallelujah! We all busted out laughing and she thought we had lost our minds. We didn't really, we were just mesmerized!
Lady R with Taser bait and Flame. Yep! I'd say they seem pretty perfect to me!

I was missing my pal the Road Runner this weekend. He wasn't able to be here, so I happily agreed to "man" the grill. Actually, Flame, Strawberry and Darlin' did all the hard work by skewering the meat and veggies. I had the easy part!
Woo Hoo! Cruising the "hood" in golf carts, the transportation of choice, is the Lone Ranger, Strawberry, Detail, Flame and Taser bait. The rally campgrounds were set up like a small suburbia of RV's, campers and tents, displaying an interesting assortment of sizes and styles. Traffic was allowed to flow in a one way pattern throughout the "streets" which were laid out like spokes in a wheel that came out to a six point intersection at the center. This proved to be a more challenging adventure as the evening wore on. The "spirits" flowed freely, and the growing population of golf carts and motorcycles became like a rush hour madness... only fun!

During the day, we took advantage of the nice weather and went riding. The scenery along the way was a pleasure to take in, and it was a beautiful day. Slightly overcast skies kept us from getting too hot, which felt fantastic. The Lone Ranger had a '78 Shovel Head at the rally that was not very passenger friendly, so I was happy to let him and Strawberry enjoy my girl for the day so we could all go riding together. I hopped on the back of Harley's bike and just enjoyed the ride and took pictures.
Georgia is a big peanut growing state and we passed this peanut field being harvested.
Don't let your eyes deceive you, this isn't snow. We're just "way down south in the land of cotton."

To be continued... stay tuned for the next episode of GEORGIA ON MY MIND.
Still to come: G-man saves a Hippie, Sexy Granny, "Smoke on the water", and much, much, more!

THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS AND CADE'S COVE

Day 4: I guess you all know by now, I keep waking up to another great day of vacation. Well, today is no different! Yesterday, we ran the Loop, which was one of the highlights of our trip thus far, but today was going to prove to be a very satisfying day also. We are taking Hwy 441 from Cherokee, through the Smokey Mountain National Park into Gatlinburg. We plan to ride up to Cade's Cove while we are on the north end of the park before we come back to this area at the end of the day. As we have already discovered on our previous days of riding, the roads are filled with breathtaking views and more beautiful sights around every corner. Can it be legal for us to be having this much fun?

We had a bit of an overcast sky, making the air cool, but comfortable. I started out with a short sleeve t-shirt this morning, but I could tell already, I would be donning another layer as we made our climb up the mountains to cooler temperatures. We weren't long into our journey before the view we saw made us want to stop and take some pics.

This is what I call "Hogs in Heaven"!
We were ascending these glorious mountains, when we saw the sign pointing us towards Clingman's Dome. The road up to the Dome is off the main road and runs along the Tennessee and North Carolina state line for about 27 miles and climbs higher in elevation as it goes. It will take you to the highest point of the Park which is 6,643 feet. I guess, this is what you could call the nose bleed section! Yes, my ears popped again, but no bloody noses.

Have you ever ridden through a cloud? It's awesome! As we were riding up this road, the clouds were hugging this part of the mountain, which made it darker and cooler. It was like entering into a twilight zone of fog, while we moved through the clouds that were laying in our paths. As we did so, a sudden blanket of cold air would engulf you, and it felt like misting machines spraying us with cool moisture. As soon as we poked back out of the cloud, you'd feel the warmer air hit you again. Totally awesome experience! I actually started shivering and hoped I could make it to the top, where I could put on my long sleeve shirt.

To reach the absolute top, you have to park your vehicles and walk the rest of the way up, which is about another 1/2 mile. The Lone Ranger said, "If I can't take it in 2nd gear, I guess I won't be seeing it." We all just laughed! Looking at the path, I think we all could have taken it if we could have just told all the people to get out of the way! LOL! Maybe we'll save that dare for another trip!

The top of Clingman's Dome overlooking the Smokey Mountains. After granting ourselves a pretty long stretch and some drinks up at the Dome area, we decided we were ready for more that these mountains had to offer. The rest of our way over the mountain into Gatinburg, brought us one beautiful view after another. We were like sissies in boys town, let me tell you!

When we got into the town of Gatlinburg, it was busy and crowded, as usual. We parked our bikes behind a Harley Davidson Store right along the main drag and walked across the street to the Hard Rock Cafe for a great lunch. The food was really good and our server was a hoot! We left the Hard Rock full and satisfied, and since none of us really cared to walk around the tourist filled sidewalks, we made our way back to the bikes so we could mount up and head over to Cade's Cove.

We saw some more pretty water falls along the road and Harley stopped to get this nice shot. We have a system for getting great pics and it works out real well. He would stay in back, and pull off to snap a pic or two when he saw an opportunity, and then catch back up to the rest of us. That way we all didn't have to keep stopping and lose the "zen" of our ride. Besides, he said it was fun playing catch up!

At the north end of the Smokey Mountain National Park, not too far out of Gatlinburg, is a road that takes you up to a wildlife preserve, within an 11 mile loop, called Cade's Cove. This really nice 23 mile stretch of road that takes you there, makes you feel like your in the fairy tale forests you read about in your story books.I kept looking around the next curve for a glimpse of Snow White or Hansel and Gretel. Sadly, we did not see them nor any dwarfs either. But while the Lone Ranger was leading us, a small bear cub ran out onto the road right in front of him! Awesome! It was about the size of a Saint Bernard but, you could tell it was young. As I got to the point where I knew the bear crossed him, I was steady watching the side of the road for Mama Bear! Thankfully, she did not show herself, but we all said later, she probably was not far away. The funny thing about us seeing that bear, was a conversation we had that morning before we left. Harley joked that he wanted to lead in the Cove, because he wanted to be the first one to see a bear. Oh well, he missed out! Due to the fact that he was bringing up the rear, taking beautiful scenery pics, he missed a great pic of the bear. Boo hoo! Truth is, that little cub was gone into the forest so fast, we wouldn't have gotten a good picture anyway. Made for a little excitement though!

There are a couple of places along the way that have cool little waterfalls right next to the road, so close, you could almost reach out and touch the water as you passed. The pavement was wet in several areas, not from rain, but from water falls flowing over the road.

After coming back out of the Cove area, we continued on our way and stopped at this tunnel. We went through it once on the way up, so we decided to stop here on the way back and take in the view and have a stretch. The Lone Ranger took the opportunity to play meet and greet some other park guests. LOL! We laughed at some of the reactions he got, as people would look up at him and start pointing.
Today ended up being another very fulfilling and rewarding ride. Being on a motorcycle in the mountains has to be one of the best experiences there is to enjoy! There is no way to completely relate the peace and contentment that you feel when you can ride like this. Just for the fun of it! When we got back to Cherokee, we hit Hwy 441 again, that took us back to Bryson City for the night. We sauntered into Mickey's Pub to throw back a few for the last time while we were here. As we sat back and conversed over all we've done for these last few days, the decision was unanimous that this was probably the best motorcycle vacation ever. It was all because of the roads.

Tomorrow we will get up and have to head back into the real world of telephones and deadlines, but tonight we'll relish in our happiness! Night, night.

To be continued...
