I'm posting a picture of a rock.

Not just any rock, mind you, but a rock with... attitude. 

Tell me... WHAT DO YOU SEE?


This rock is near one of the lookouts we stop at while exploring fire roads on top of Mt. Rebecca in the Talladega National Forest.

I think it has a distinctive feature about it.  So much so... I thought I would pass it on to my readers to help me come up with a cool title for this picture.

So tell me... what do you see?

PIC OF THE WEEK - MT. PLAYGROUND

One of my favorite places to ride, is up around Mt. Cheaha and Talladega National Forest.  Now that I have a Jeep, it's my favorite place to climb!  People have asked me, "Where do you spend your Saturdays these days?"  My answer is short and immediate... "the woods!"

The hills you see in the distance are the Talladega, Rebbecca, and Horn Mountains.  Harley and I have been all over the Mt. Cheaha area on our Glides, enjoying the hilly curves of the asphalt, but lately we've been exploring the rough and rugged ridge tops of these hills.
 

While exploring the rugged trails that cut through these steep hills, our Jeep adventures have allowed us to enjoy a part of our beautiful state that seems to be hidden from the rest of the world. It's amazing how peaceful and serene it is up there. 


I have accumulated quite a collection of pictures while trekking across these secluded pathways and I plan to share them with you all soon.

PIC OF THE WEEK - COHUTTA MOUNTAIN IN GEORGIA

I know this post is a day late, but I didn't come out of the woods and off the mountain till yesterday and then I chose to nap my long weekend to a close.

Our summer was a little interrupted by unforeseen events, so when Harley and I had the chance to head for the hills for Labor Day... we did exactly that. We rented a cabin up on Lookout Mountain in Mentone, AL and rode the Jeep over to Georgia to explore in the Chattahoochee National Forest on some awesome fire roads.

We found FR 17 that took us to the top on a sandy gravel interpretation of the "Tail of the Dragon", complete with very steep drops offs and no guard rails.

Just to give you an idea... if you were to step in the grass on the left side of this road, you would be looking down at a 90 to 100 foot drop... at least!

It was wickedly scary in a few places, but we had a wonderful weekend and very relaxing one at that!

PIC OF THE WEEK - FLAGG MOUNTAIN

Harley and I went 'sploring again Saturday and took the Jeep up across Flagg Mountain in Coosa County. I know you western folks don't consider our little foothills mountains, but they're still fun to ride on and the views aren't too bad either.

Taking to the woods and driving on these dirt and gravel roads have been opening new doors of adventure for us and I can't say I haven't been having a good time doing it! Maybe it's just me, but even with 4 wheels under me, I'm still drawn to great road shots! Allow me...

We found a couple new shortcuts, or longcuts... depending on who you ask, and I look forward to the changing seasons from my new viewpoint up on Flagg Mountain. The peace and quiet will be compromised during hunting season, however, when the occasional gun shot pierces the air, and yet another Bambi bites the dust.
