PIC OF THE WEEK - SOUTHERN CROSSROADS

Remember when...

This reminds me of one of my favorite movies, "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" Remember the "King Biscuit Flour Hour?" Familys would sit around for hours and listen to radio shows and singing entertainment sponsored by some of our favorite groceries.

CAPERTON'S OLD SOUTH GENERAL STORE AND PAWN SHOPWelcome to the corner that time forgot. This is the little community of Weogufka, AL and home for Caperton's Old South General Store and Pawn Shop. It has been our pit stop on many a hot summer days, as it's right on the way to one of our favorite twisty roads. The White Tulip Flour sign is on another old store right across the street from us and this whole corner feels like your standing still in time.

I've been in that store only once... very interesting!

Have a great week everybody!

Lady R

This looks so appealing to me. I think I was born in the wrong era. :)

Any idea why that flag is at half mast?

"Oh Brother . . ." Great movie. The Soggy Bottom Boys - about the funniest sequences ever filmed!

Good wishes

Ann... The wrong era! Maybe that's my problem. I feel like one of those old folks who pine away for the good 'ol days. Problem is... I ain't that old yet!

Willy D... Yea... pretty sad story actually. It happened to be the one and only time I went into that store. (We usually have our saddle bags packed with a cooler, but for some reason, I wanted a different drink) I overheard two old codgers talking about poor Blue... best huntin' dog Cooter Brown ever had. It was a sad day in Weogufka. (Actually... truth be told... this pic was taken right after Obama was elected.) Hmmmmm.

Doctor FTSE... Welcome to my blog. You have a fine taste in movies. I think I could watch that movie every day. It's so funny and original. My favorite part... hell I have too many favorite parts, but when the sirens start calling (singing) to them from the stream... hahahahaha! I think I'll go watch it again. It's been a while.

This is the stuff that makes me head out on the hobo runs. Anyone can go see a monument...but the little places are monuments in themselves...

I wasn't born in the wrong time...I just think I was put here to keep people from forgetting, and...so were you.

Lady R: LOL:) Loosing your best hound would be a sad day indeed. But I think that if you asked anyone in downtown Weogufka they would say: “Barack who?”

Dave... Amen to that! I have so many pics of little places like that, we should put our talents together and make a movie. We can call it... "Road Whore Americana". Show all the stiff shirts where the good life really is. I'll get my peoople to call your people and we'll do lunch! LOL!

Willy D... Hmmm. Your right... they may not know him as Barack... I think he goes by another name around these parts.

Don't see many rebel flags where I'm from. You in the South or sumthin?

KT Did... I'm glad you liked the sign. My hubby thought I was crazy for taking a picture of it, but he expects stuff like that from me.

Irondad... Happy Days! We'll leave the light on for ya!

Mr. M... I see Rebel flags ALL the time... in windows of homes, on flag poles like this one, on the backs of trucks... even our state capital USED to fly the rebel flag under the American flag up until just a few years ago.
Yep... I'm in the south... or sumthin"!

Very good reading this blog, such interesting places and how often is it that we just ride through interesting places without bothering to stop and explore or take photos. Sometimes it's too much of a schlep to stop and take all the gear off, I'm gonna do it more often - thank you Lady R.

Rick... Isn't funny how some movies can be watched over and over again and still be entertaining. That's that movie for me! We have the DVD and CD. Too funny!!

the rider... I've just learned a new word... "schlep". Your soooo right! In fact, my hubby starts to get impatient looks on his face if I stop more often than he thinks tolerable. And now that it's colder... it take longer to... take gear off and get gear back on.
Geesh! What's a moto-photo-blogger to do??
