PIC OF THE WEEK - MEMORIAL DAY MEMORIES

I hope you all are having a nice holiday so far. Cookouts, picnics, pool parties and riding... it's all good, as long as we remember...

THANK YOU... to the fighting men and women who protect this country, so we can enjoy these things with our friends and family.  Today is a day to honor those who died for these freedoms.

MEMORIAL DAY MEMORIES
Papa J... the handsome sailor
I think he was posing for my momma!
I found two pictures of my dad posing on the ship he served on, the USS Saline County (LST-1101).  I'm very thankful that he did not perish while serving.  I'm the person I am today because of his influence in my life. I'm so proud to be his daughter, and I think it's totally cool that I followed his footsteps and served in the Navy.  Two of my brothers served also.  One with the US Army, and one with the US Air Force.  My third brother was smart, and went to college.  We're very proud of him and we always teased that he went to school to assure mom and dad that they had at least one kid with some brains.

Uncle Larry, back row second from right. Uncle Ron, kneeling, first on the left. Cousin Chris, kneeling center. Brother Mike, banner carrier on the left. My dad... large and in charge, saluting as the Drill Captain.
This picture was taken right before one of Dubuque, Iowa's annual Memorial Day Parades.  The funny thing for me is, of the thirteen shown in this photo, I'm related to five of them. Three others were so close to my dad, that before I knew better, I thought they were my uncles too.

It can be said, I come from a very patriotic family and I'm very proud of it!

God Bless America... and Happy Memorial Day everybody!

FRIDAY FUNNY - HUMOR IN UNIFORM

Since Memorial Day is Monday, I've decided to dedicate my Friday Funny to some of my favorite people... those men and women who wear a uniform in defense of our great (although somewhat crippled) country.  This holiday provides us a chance to honor those who served and died while protecting our American freedoms.

Being a Navy veteran myself, I understand all too well about "down time".  You never lose the importance of your duties or the significance of discipline, but when the smoking light is on, well... let me just let the pictures speak for themselves.

HUMOR IN UNIFORM
Weeeeeeee...!!!
Please... ????
Working Buns
Anybody... ???
Cheese!!
I need to thank Curiosities: Humor in Uniform for these pics.  A little laughter goes a long way.

I hope you all have a safe and happy Memorial Day doing what'cha do! As for me... I think a test ride on a Heritage Softail Classic is on my agenda... and maybe a Fat Boy too.  Hmmmmmm...

God Bless America!

FRIDAY FUNNY - NAG, NAG, NAG!

An attorney arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay of execution. His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed. As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started on him.

"Do you know what time of night is it to be getting home like this? Where have you been? Dinner is cold and I'm not reheating it!"  And on... and on... and on.

Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he poured himself a shot of whiskey and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub, pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks as he dragged himself up the stairs.

While he was in the bath, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband's client, James Wright, had been granted a stay of execution after all. Wright would not be hanged tonight. Finally realizing what a terrible day he must have had, she decided to go up stairs and give him the good news. As she opened the bathroom door, she was greeted by the sight of her husband, bent over naked, drying his legs and feet.

"They're not hanging Wright tonight," she said.

He whirled around and screamed...

"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WOMAN, DON'T YOU EVER STOP?"

PIC OF THE WEEK - HOMESICK FOR IOWA

I talked to my mom yesterday for Mother's Day, and I guess it's made me a bit homesick for Iowa. One of my Iowa cousins posted (on FB) how all the motorcycles are starting to come out and enjoy the Spring weather and it reminded her of my dad. He used to give her rides against her mom's wishes, but hey, isn't that what Uncles are for?

I never had the opportunity to ride through my ol' home state while I had my motorcycle, but the wide open feeling you get when driving along a mid-western highway with nothing but open corn fields and an occasional farm to dapple the country side... I'm thinking how awesome that would have been.

HOMESICK FOR IOWA

All these pics were taken in June of 2009, on Highway 61, south of Dubuque, Iowa. For some of you, these may seem, uninteresting, but they take me back to a time that was so long ago, so youthful, so carefree, so... smelly.  (You never forget the cows and pigs... never.)

Iowa... A great place to grow!

Have a nice week everybody!

FRIDAY FUNNY - MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME...

Today's Friday Funny is in honor of Mother's. My mom was a great mother, and I thank her greatly for passing along her vast vault of wisdom.  I'm sure many of your own moms raised you with some of these same "lessons" ... it's what mothers do.

MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME...

1.  My mother taught me to APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE.
"If you're going to kill each other, do it outside! I just finished cleaning."

2.  My mother taught me RELIGION.
"You better pray that will come out of the carpet."

3.  My mother taught me about TIME TRAVEL.
"If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!"

4.  My mother taught me LOGIC.
"Because I said so, that's why."

5.  My mother taught me MORE LOGIC.
"If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me."

6.  My mother taught me FORESIGHT.
"Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident."

7.  My mother taught me IRONY.
"Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about."

8.  My mother taught me about the science of OSMOSIS.
"Shut your mouth and eat your supper."

9.  My mother taught me about CONTORION-ISM.
"Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck?!"

10.  My mother taught me about STAMINA.
"You'll sit there until all that spinach is gone."

11.  My mother taught me about the WEATHER.
"This room of yours looks like a tornado went through it."

12.  My mother taught me about HYPOCRISY.
"If I told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!"

13.  My mother taught me the CIRCLE OF LIFE.
"I brought you into this world, and I can take you out..."

14.  My mother taught me about BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION.
      "Stop acting like your father!"

15.  My mother taught me about ENVY.
"There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don't have wonderful parents like you do."

16.  My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION.
"Just wait until we get home."

17.  My mother taught me about RECEIVING.
"You are going to get it when you get home!"

18.  My mother me about MEDICAL SCIENCE.
"If you don't stop crossing your eye, they are going to get stuck that way."

19.  My mother taught me ESP.
"Put your sweater on; don't you think I know when you are cold?"

20.  My mother taught me HUMOR.
"When the lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me."

21.  My mother taught me HOW TO BECOME AN ADULT.
"If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up."

22.  My mother taught me GENETICS.
      "You're just like your father."

23.  My mother taught me about my ROOTS.
"Shut that door behind you. Do you think you were born in a barn?"

24.  My mother taught me WISDOM.
"When you get to be my age, you'll understand.

25.  My mother taught me about JUSTICE.
"One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you."

And... saving my favorite one for last...

My mother taught me about CHOICE.
"Do you want me to stop this car?"

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY EVERYBODY!!

EDWARD OEST'S SUPERMOON PHOTO

I know this is cheatin', but I've been very busy this weekend and I'm totally unprepared for today! Shew!

I'm sure you all saw the beautiful super moon this weekend, and if you didn't... you missed it! It was absolutely beautiful! My friend and I enjoyed it's brilliant splendor while cruising the Bay area along the water in the Cove in Panama City. The reflection of it's shining light on the water was so serene and peaceful. I hate my camera didn't cooperate, but I did find another amazing shot on the web.

SUPER MOON OVER ANGLIN'S FISHING PIER

Photographer Edward Oest captured this amazing shot of the fishing pier at Lauderdale-by-the-sea.. Since I spent some time in Florida myself, I thought this would be a good one to share.  Besides, it's one of my favorites!

Thanks for sharing with all of us, Mr. Oest!

Have a great week everybody!

FRIDAY FUNNY - "I FISH ON FRIDAYS"

After 35 years of marriage, a husband and wife went in for counseling. When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a passionate, painful tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the years they have been married.

On and on and on she shared about: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable. An entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured. Finally, after allowing this for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and after asking the wife to stand, embraced and kissed her passionately as her husband watched with a raised eyebrow.

The woman shut up and quietly sat down as though in a daze.

The therapist turned to the husband and said, "This is what your wife needs at least three times a week. Can you do this?"

"Well", the husband replied, "I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays... I fish."
