CR 50 in Elmore County is a nice little road that delivers you to The Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail, a beautiful scenic overlook of Lake Martin. On the way there, however, you get to ride cross the Jack B. Venable bridge and the Tallapoosa River.
JACK B. VENABLE BRIDGE
Coming up on the bridge seems uneventful, however, as you ride across, you get a dose of interesting scenery and old history as your mind jumps into action as it registers your "snapshot" to memory.

The "old" Jack B. Venable Bridge |
The history behind old broken bridges like one this interest me. These retired, crumbling bridge abutments stand as haunting reminders of the original structure that once graced this spot. They almost seem like a sad memorial to an era gone by, and the history they hold deteriorates with them as they age and weather.
... kind of like us!
Have a great week everybody!

This is one of the great reasons why I love photos. History. One day these photos will remind the generations to come of what it was like in your neck of the woods. Beautiful!
gorgeous! and hey i heard there was some bad weather out there today... hope all is well in your neck of the woods!
KT... Thanks friend. Even though I'm very inspired by you and your photography, I'm having a hard time executing things these days. I'm hoping to shake off this winter funk soon and show my true potential. Getting the blues suck! ;/
Mq01... Yes, we are fine. The hardest hit was north of us and it definitely delivered some damage. I hate it for the folks who lost their homes, this weather is something else!
Thanks for the interesting photos! As a former bridge builder for the BNSF Ry., I'm always interested in structural photos.
Lady R:
I also like history and when I wander through old, deserted places . . . I often wonder what happened to those people that used to live there. I mean, how could they just leave their possessions and just walk away and go somewhere else. That road doesn't look like a bridge as you approach it.
I love your last sentence: " . . .history they hold deteriorates with them as they age and weather." I know what the words say, but my mind thinks it says, " as they age and WITHER " and I think it is directed at me, cause that's what's happening now as I age . . .

Jim P... Your welcome. I like taking pictures of bridges, especially if we get a chance to snap what you see as you cross it.
Bobskoot... your not alone... we are all aging and withering... regardless of the weather!
