CROSSROADS IN CASTLEBERRY
Harley and I took a few minutes to stretch our legs at this railroad crossing in downtown Castleberry, Alabama during our ride on Saturday. We logged around 280 miles and enjoyed the best riding day so far for 2010. The sun was high, the sky was blue, and mother nature blessed us with 75 degree temps... it was absolutely fabulous!
DOWNTOWN CASTLEBERRY
Our plan was to ride down around the Evergreen area so Harley the "scrap man" could scope out the roads and bridges that his company's big pan trucks would be traveling on. (See my post, John Deere And The "Scrap Man" I posted on Friday for a better explanation about the pans). Discovering little towns like Castleberry is what makes riding around even more rewarding. You just never know where you'll end up.
Downtown Castleberry... Looks like a real happenin' place! Ya'll come back now... ya hear?
Have a great Monday everyone and ride on!!

I love discovering towns like this. Amid all the hustle and bustle of today's world, it's kinda nice to find places that have been passed over by time.
Thanx for the pics.
"I was born in a small town, I can breath in a small town!"
Nice picts....Whoa! look out for the f'in train behind you!...that was my favorite pict...sorry, the rest were good too but that one...just cool.
Finding places like this is one of my favorite things about riding. Everything just looks so much the same on interstates - except maybe Alligator Alley. Truck tire "gators" abound, but don't recall seeing live gators anywhere else.
Dean... I've never even heard of Castelberry before Saturday. By the looks of the place, I guess I can see why. My hubby thought I was nuts when I told him Castleberry, AL made the Pic Of The Week. He laughed again when he noticed I only had two comments so far. He said... "see? You can't give 'em the Grand Canyon and Nova Scotia, then expect them to get excited about Castleberry!" LOL!
Dave... Thanks! I liked that one too. In fact... I almost chose that one to stand alone. Looking down that long straight track makes me want to explore beyond what I can see.
Kathy... These little towns are very unique and still draw your imagination out. That's what so cool about riding through them. I feel like I'm riding through a slice of antique time. LOL!
Hey it looks quaint and all, but then again I can hear them banjos start to play around sundown, and if you're last name isn't the same as theirs then it's time to "git!"
I hung out with a few dudes from the Yellowhammer State while I was in FL for Bike Week. They were from Tuscaloosa County, went by the roadnames Country and Snowman, and man did we LAUGH! Funny how everything down South is by Counties. Up here, most people don't have a clue what County they live in. It's all North Shore, South Shore, Metro-West, South Coast, Berkshires, etc. With these guys it was stuff like,"Ever here of Gordo? That's over to Pickens County." OMG I have some stories for you...some of 'em I'll probably have to share w/you in private emails though ;) Talk about culture shock!
I did learn two very important things though: One: Cold catfish ain't worth shit; and Two: You can't turn down a Triple-Dog-Dare!
Naw! Harley I was just out. My week starts out with picture of the week. And all here knows I like the old forgottin places. When we ride I look for them. In the more lively town(a couple more cars) you often find a good eatery. Great shots.
I got some pictures a few weeks ago of a condemned train bridge. I was trespassing. Seems like tracks always go through scenic places.
These are the kind of things we search for when we are looking to get lost on purpose.
Joker... Tuscaloosa County, heh? They weren't Bear Bryant resurrectors were they? LOL! Tuscaloosa is only 80 miles or so northwest of me, and being an Auburn Fan, I try to stay outta them parts.
But you can send me an email... I want to hear some stories! And BTW... EVERYBODY knows you can't turn down a Triple-Dog-Dare!! Muwahahahaha!
Webster... Yay!... my fan has returned! LOL!
I thought this little town looked forgotten... definitely didn't see any place to eat, but I liked the old building closet to the tracks. Thanks for lifting my confidence back up. LOL!!
Willy D... ooohhhh. The trespassing part sound like fun. Old train tracks hold some cool memories for me. We used to hike along tracks all the time while growing up. As a teen, we had a cool place to hang out, on the outskirts of town. The only way to get there was to hike the tracks. It was a great place to hide!
Mr. M... I like that expression... "get lost on purpose". Sounds like a plan! Maybe we'll get lost again Saturday. Our Spring has finally taken hold and we should be relishing in mid 70's again this weekend!
Webster... I just noticed that I made a reference to the building closet. No... I haven't really been in the closet. I just meant to say it was closest to the tracks. LOL! :D
ahhhh...
