LOVE IS IN THE AIR

Love is in the air
Everywhere I look around.
Love is in the air
Every sight and every sound.

If you've ever ridden in the Southeast this time of year, you are very familiar with our lovebugs. They are the most annoying little buggers and they're plentiful right now.

Plecia nearctica, more commonly referred to as "lovebugs" is a member of the family of march flies. This is mating season and they are everywhere! The little fockers are hell on your paint and clothes and prove to be a serious nuisance when riding down the road. Especially if your smiling!

Here's a little excerpt I copied from the Wikipedia to help better explain...
"Upon reaching maturity, the lovebug spends almost the entirety of its remaining life copulating with its mate, hence its numerous romantic nicknames. The male and female attach themselves at the rear of the abdomen and remain that way at all times, even in flight. In fact, after mating, the male dies and is dragged around by the female until she lays her eggs. Females lay up to 350 eggs in debris, and about 20 days later the eggs hatch into larvae. The larval stage may last up to nine months."

Can you imagine screwing during your whole adult life without stopping? For you dudes, life may be short, but definitely sweet. Except for the knowledge that your ol' lady will drag your dead ass around till she's done having her babies! LOL!

There was plenty of "love" in the air on the way home from Bainbridge, as you can see by the honeymoon suite on my fairing.
Love is in the air
Love is in the air
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

Ride safe!

It seems that a lot of females kill or eat their mate. I guess as long as I have a :) on my face, and a (^) attached to me, why not.

I had heard of those, but never seen them. I'm sorry, if my man dies on me, I ain't dragging his ass around anymore.

After 8 years living in North Georgia, I sometime almost forget about the lovebugs, gnats, and mosquitos in South Georgia. Then, I go down to see my mom, borther, and friends and it all comes back to me *SPLAT*.

Moving to North Georgia was a good thing :)

Sounds like a pretty good life to me. I can't think of a better way to go: with a smile on my face while I'm doing the wild thang!

That might be me if it wasn't for motorcycles!

I just got a really big smile when I passed a gal in an old Ford van recently. She had a bumper sticker that read
"Happiness is sex and motorcycles"

Think she liked the bike!

In 1980
My buddy and I were tooling along at about 30 miles an hour.
Looking cool
Me on my triumph Chopper and him on some yamaha that was the speed bike of it's day.
I look over to talk to him and his bike is riding perfectly alongside......
Except he wasn't on it.
I look behind me and he is laid out in the middle of the road.
I watched his bike veer off and fall over on the side of the road. I turned around, went back and saw him. In the middle of his chest was a gigantic June bug. When that sucker hit him, it knocked him right off the damn bike. He was fine, but had a hell of a bruise on his chest for about a month!

b.b... I hear ya girlfriend! LOL!

allen... It's like traveling through black snow. Yuck!

dave... when I got home, there were a few couples still alive, stuck there just hangin and fluttering. I just walked away in disgust and told 'em to "get a room!" They knew it was over when they saw me coming with the garden hose!LOL!

dean... I hear ya dude, all is well until that stupid bitch takes you out into the fast lane! It's all over but the singing then!

Irondad... I think she liked the bike! I just wonder why she was driving a van? Oh yeah... maybe she was dragging her dead mate around! LOL!

big daddy... I can believe it! Those suckers are huge, like golf balls almost. I could see one knocking you back. I got hit in the knee with a big yellow jacket and I thought someone hit me with a stick! That shit can hurt!

Wow what a mess! I'm all set on the lovebugs! I'll have to be sure to check with you before riding South to make sure I avoid when they are in "season!"

I've been pretty lucky so far avoiding major bug strikes, though a yellow jacket did fly into my helmet strap one time last year and stung me on the back of my right ear. Little bastard hurt!
