REMEMBERING MY DAD

I just wanted to take some time today to remember my dad. It will be two years this coming February since he passed away, and not a day goes by that I don't have some thought of him.  Going through the year of "firsts" was terrible, but today being his second birthday in heaven, it feels good to be able to remember him and laugh over stories of him (which there are many, trust me!).

For me, my dad was my strength, my motivator, my provider... my hero. He was a firm believer in the motto..."spare the rod, spoil the child", but through it all, I always felt his love.  I'm very proud of the person I am today and I owe it all to him and my mom.  He was a man who lived as though family was the most important thing in his life.  It's amazing what that feels like.
To the man who started it all... my first motorcycle ride (I've shared this before, but here it is again).

And my most favorite picture of all, (probably because it's the last picture I have of me and him together) New Year's Eve 2009.

RIP Papa J - November 3, 1938 - February 20, 2010.
Thank you dad... for all you've done for me. Happy Birthday!

DAD... YOU DA MAN!!

Just a little something for my Dad.

Dad,
... for all the sacrifices you made for us over the years (and there were many) to make sure we had food, clothes and shelter... you da man!

... for setting an example for us to follow, of discipline, honor, and and respect for others... you da man!

... for letting us see and know, that you loved our Mom... you da man!

... for all the camping weekends we spent together as a family growing up... you da man!

... for all the Easy Bake oven goodies you ate with enthusiasm, (in spite of how nasty they were)... you da man!

... for all the Father Daughter date nights you never missed... you da man!

... for getting up and out at 3:00 in the morning to pull me out of a snowy ditch, and not raise hell... you da man!

... for teaching me about money. How to earn, how to save, and how to spend... you da man!

... for making sure I was ready for the outside world, away from your protective cloak... you da man!

... for accepting, and loving my husband like he was one of your sons... you da man!

... for just being my dad... you da man!

I LOVE YOU!!

Today my Dad is completing a cross country move, from Montana back to Iowa. He and my mom have been living out west for the last nine years, and they've decided it was time to come back home. I wish I could have been there to help, but my Uncles are with them and they will get the job done.

Meanwhile, here in the sunny south, Harley and I plan to take a nice long ride today. My thoughts will be with my dad... wondering... "is he there yet?"

Happy Fathers Day Dad! I love you and appreciate all you've done for me... you da man!
