PIC OF THE WEEK - COTTON

No... that's not snow... it's cotton!  It's harvest time around here for cotton and I was able to get a couple good snaps of a typical (albeit a bit on the small side) cotton field before it was picked clean of it's treasure.

COTTON

I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times they are not forgotten;
Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.

Have a great week everybody!

  1. Lady R,

    I've never been south enough that I've seen a cotton field. It looks so much different from the corn (or beans) I'm familiar with. Some day, I'll get down that a-way.

    Also, I just read about your day. I hope he is a peace now - and that is a totally awesome family photo on the machine. What a lucky memory to have preserved.

  2. When I lived in Ga. my wife small son and I went for a fall drive. The fields something. I'd never seen it before. I stopped to check it out. Picked a piece or two and now know just how bad it had to be to pick it.

  3. Brady... The first time I saw a huge field of cotton, my initial reaction was, "Where did all this snow come from?" It only took a couple of seconds for my mind to process what I was looking at. At twenty something, I thought a large field of white cotton was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, and it was sooooo southern!

    Webster... I've picked a piece or two and now I have a better understanding why picking cotton was so painful... back in the day. Those sharp prongs holding the cotton in makes mince meat outta your fingers!!

  4. I remember seeing cotton growing in the central valley of California and thinking that it looked pretty cool. I ended up having some of the dried plants in a vase for a numer of years.

  6. RichardM... I have several cotton boll ornaments that dress up our Christmas tree. The white of the cotton almost makes it look like snow.

    Mq01... I know! I didn't realize either, that something so soft comes out of something so prickly!

  7. Funny you said no it is not snow. The first time I seen a cotton field I had been driving all night with very little sleep. I woke from a power napped rubbed my eyes and said it snowed this far south. LOL witch is what my friend with me did.

  8. Bitchy... I know! Even when it does snow down here, it's usually a mild dusting. Certainly not deep and thick like the cotton field appears. Our minds are real pranksters, heh?
